FAQs

Have a Question?

Invisalign® is an exciting method for doing orthodontics without the traditional wires and brackets. It is usually done on older teenagers and adults. We use clear retainers that are produced specifically for your mouth so that the teeth are gradually moved without the need for wires and brackets. Each case is different but typically treatment time is anywhere from six months to two years. The retainers are worn all the time except when eating or brushing your teeth.

Root canal treatment is done on teeth where the pulp(mostly known as the nerve) of the tooth has gone bad due to a cavity or an infection. Although the majority of root canals are pain free, sometimes there is some discomfort after the procedure. This discomfort can be managed very well with anti inflammatories and antibiotics. We will talk to you about what to expect before we even begin the procedure.

This question is always on the minds of patients when we are about to begin any procedure. Rest assured all of our highly trained staff are aware that the mouth is an extremely sensitive area to work in. We go to great lengths to make sure that what we do is done in the most pain-free environment that we can provide. Powerful local anesthetics are used. We also can provide nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to patients who are very apprehensive. For surgical procedures, we can use conscious sedation to thoroughly relax a patient. Please let us know your particular needs at any time through out your treatment.

At Commack Hills Dental Group we use the zoom whitening system. A patient will schedule a one hour appointment at which their teeth will get whiter using a gel that is activated by a powerful blue light. Whitening will last typically one to two years and longer if the patient uses an at home touch up kit we will provide at the whitening visit.

Many people male or female have a condition known as sleep apnea. This is a medical condition that can affect someone getting a restful sleep. The result of this is tiredness during the day as well as a decrease in mental function. Other health issues can arise from sleep apnea. Your physician can authorize a sleep test to determine if sleep apnea is causing the problem. We can then work with that physician to determine if an oral appliance can remedy the sleep apnea condition. Frequently an oral appliance is all that is needed.

At CHDG we always welcome new patients. Typically when a new patient calls for an appointment, a series of questions will be asked that will include how you heard of us, what service or services you are interested in, and what if any insurance you may have. Most of time a new patient will be appointed to see a doctor first to assess their oral condition and then establish the best treatment plan for that patient. We strive to make your first visit to our office as pleasant and smooth as possible. We want you to join our family.

Many patients present to our office with some kind of dental insurance. There is a tremendous variety of insurances that are available. We at CHDG recommend that a patient first become familiar with their insurance by reading any materials that the insurance provides to you. The insurance company must provide all information pertaining to dental procedures that are covered and which are not. After that, we will do our best to help a patient navigate through the coverage that they have. You must remember that we base our treatment on what’s best for the patient. Not all procedures are part of your insurance and we will do our best to help you use your insurance whenever possible.

Dental implants are the closest replacement to a natural tooth. A dental implant is a metallic titanium post that is inserted into the jawbone. Like other titanium implants, such as hip replacements, the titanium integrates into the bone and creates a solid foundation for us to build on. We use this foundation for a variety of restorations such as a single tooth replacement or to anchor bridges or dentures. An implant is a restoration that is not for everyone, so please schedule an appointment with our implant specialist to see if you are a candidate for this procedure.

A CEREC restoration is a metal-free restoration. It is a revolutionary technology that uses video photography and a computerized robotic milling system to fabricate a variety of restorations out of porcelain.
